FMX Presents Inside the Studio: Strike! In Conversation with the WGA
Join us for a special, personal conversation with writer and filmmaker Shawn Wines (HBO, Fox, NBC, Freeform, The Gordita Chronicles), who will join us by Zoom to discuss his career as a screenwriter, and his WGA-W membership and role as Strike Captain since the Hollywood strikes began.
This conversation will provide professional and personal context to the causes of the strike, the areas of contention, and the effects on the industry and the workers who make the films and television we aspire to.
This is open to the full community, but questions will be given priority to UT students. Further Inside the Studio: Strike! Conversations will follow through the semester with SAG-AFTRA and IATSE.
Bio: Shawn Wines is a comedy writer based in Los Angeles. He has written pilots for HBO, FOX, NBC and Freeform, working with producers Ivan Reitman, Aaron Kaplan, Sharon Horgan, John Krasinski, Will Arnett, John Hamburg and LeBron James.
Shawn was a writer/producer on the HBO Max show GORDITA CHRONICLES, which has a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and was on numerous critics' top 10 lists in 2022. He directed the viral short UPSTAIRS, which has millions of views and was developed as a pilot for FOX. And his short film HIGH MAINTENANCE won a Student Academy Award and played at film festivals around the world.
Shawn is a graduate of the Columbia University film program, and is currently a Strike Captain with the Writers Guild of America, helping with guild communications, member organizing and coordinating the picket lines at Paramount.
